Tar Heel Intervention? How Bout some A&M Intervention March 25, 2007

Posted by netsophobia in Antoine Wright, NBA talk, New Jersey Nets.

I know this is going to happen sooner or later, but what is it with Antoine Wright? I mean from what I’ve seen, he’s a player with big potential, but somehow he’s afraid to show his game, most of the time he revolves around the court taking contested jumpers and pull-ups instead of taking advantage of maybe his most useful weapon, his athleticism, driving to the hoop and finishing around the basket. In short, he is somewhat of a Vince Carter, having tons of hops but ends up jacking from long range, but Vince Carter is producing the numbers even though he’s reverting to Cousin Skippy sometimes. Antoine Wright right now is a permanent Mr.Hyde and not turning into Dr.Jekyll anytime soon

I see Antoine Wright as a replacement for VC, so if Vince is leaving Jersey this summer (could be a big if, or a small if), Lawrence Frank would probably give Antoine Wright the first look, the talent is there for us all to see, therefore, the question is: can he perform consistently if he’s in the starting line-up.

In 22 games as a starter this season, he averaged 27 minutes, 6.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.5 apg, and 1 spg, that’s pretty decent numbers considering that Jason Kidd and Vince are there to pick up the scoring load, but decent doesn’t mean it’s good, most of the time he’s caught sleeping on defense, or spotting upon the perimeter, i know I’ve said that before but he needs to attack the rim and get to the line, and oh, did i mention that he’s a bad FT shooter? he needs to improve on all that if he wants to reach another level.

This season is a goner for Antoine, Boki’s got his rotation spot and is producing, but he’s got all the tools to make him an excellent 2, so next season is the deadline for Antoine Wright, if he falters next season, we know what to call him…
