Nets – Celtics preview February 9, 2007

New Jersey Nets 23-27
Boston Celtics 12-36

This could easily be the most important game of the season for the Nets, first of all, Nets at 23-27, needs to win those easy ones, this game included (no disrespect to the Celts) and start gaining ground on Toronto, a team that is 3.5 games in front of us Nets, and at this point of the season. losing to a Celtics team which btw is on a 16 game skid, would summarize the season for the Nets, utterly dissapointing, the Nets had their share of close games, and i am sure i do not want another close one this time around.

Last time the two teams met in NJ, Paul Pierce hit the game winning shot to secure a 92-90 win for the Celts, and Al Jefferson had a coming out party on the Nets frontline with 29 points and 14 boards, this time round, no Paul Pierce and the focal point of the Celts are around the perimeter shooting of Ryan Gomes and the inside play of Al Jefferson.

What the Nets could do is they could exploit Boston’s weak backcourt, whose biggest guards are Delonte West and Gerald Green, in any matchups that would include Vince Carter, i suggest they put the ball into VC’s hands and let him post whoever is guarding him up, and the Nets bench are easily are class above what the Celts have to offer right now because they are almost totally decimated by injuries, so going to Marcus Williams early to mix it up abit should be good too.

This is actually a game where i strongly agree to playing Jason Collins more than 20 minutes, because if you look at the entire Nets big man roster, Collins is the only guy that could match up with Al Jefferson’s brute strength and lowpost presence, Mikki Moore would have trouble guarding Ryan Gomes, but other than that i do not see Boston’s backcourt troubling the Nets, unless Lawrence Frank is content at playing Nachbar for almost the entire game,
