Newcastle 2 Watford 1

A late goal from Obafemi Martins secured a vital win over basement side Watford, although United made very heavy weather of the victory. Martins had headed us in front four minutes after the break when he powerfully turned in a James Milner cross. But the visitors levelled just eight minutes later when Bouazza netted from close range following a corner. The Hornets then pushed for a winner and Shay Given needed to make some fines saves to keep us on terms. Milner then had the chance to claim all three points when he broke clear on the right but his well struck shot flew over the top. Returning injured pair, Damien Duff and Scott Parker came off the bench and it was Duff who set up Martins‘ winner which the Nigerian lashed into the roof of the net. Also making a return from injury were Kieron Dyer and Emre while Antoine Sibierski was fit top play despite limping off on Wednesday.
